I would suspect they already know they have a battery problem as their website lists the X2 as being out of stock. Until Chatterbox figures out their battery problems I do not recommend buying these units for snowmobiling. I have a call with the tech on Monday to discuss. I believe if you have a large enough windshield you might be able to keep the battery from getting too cold as my wife's unit seemed to be able to work ok when we would ride. I tried 3 different units all with the same results. Then when I would bring it in to warm up it would be back up to 3 bars. When I got to my stop the battery registered either 0 or 1 bar. It would then work fine again for 30 minutes. When I would pull it out it would show 3 bars of battery strength. I would stick it inside my coat to warm up for 20 minutes. I would pull the unit off my helmet and it would show either 0 or 1 bar for battery strength. I would ride for an hour and the unit would power off when I press the PTT button. I confirmed it is the battery yesterday when riding. Has anyone else tried the X2 Slim units snowmobiling? Have you had any similar problems? Were you able to fix it? No I am not spending $100 on a new windshield in hopes that it will fix the problem. (BTW, I have nothing against Chatterbox, so dont go holding grudges on me. The only thing I can think of is she has a bigger windshield that might keep the wind off her helmet better. The Problem: Chatterbox X1 and X2 are pricey (250 to talk to your buddy on occasional trips is a little expensive) you have to use their accessories and plugs. I put it on my helmet and I had the same problems. The really weird thing is the one for my wife's helmet works fine. That doesn't seem right as the X-1 works fine in the cold. Well that doesn't make sense that it is a battery problem unless the batter can't operate at all in the cold. ![]() They mentioned the battery life isn't as good in the X2 as the X1. I talked to Chatterbox today and the person that knows the most about using these in cold conditions is out of the office. Basically makes the communicator useless. ![]() After about 30 minutes of riding if I press the push to talk button on the unit or the wireless push to talk button my main unit turns off. I have constant problems with the X2 systems. All my friends ride with the X1 Slim and they work flawlessly. I have two new Chatterbox X2 Slim-p that I have been using the past couple of weeks riding.
